Wenatchee High School Athletic Hall of Fame

Stan Opp
COACH 1983-2014
Wrestling and Boys' Golf
Stan came to Wenatchee High after having been a very successful head wrestling coach at Eastern Washington University for five years. He guided a pair of teams to 2nd and 3rd at the NAIA national tournament before Eastern eliminated its wrestling program.

After taking the reins of the Panther grappling squad, the South Dakota State Hall of Fame athlete proceeded to turn the program around and build it into a powerhouse while winning 69.3% of dual meets and compiling a 164-72-3 record. His teams finished 2nd, 3rd, and 5th twice at the State 4A Tournament as well as placed in the top 8 at State for nine consecutive years. The Panthers also won two Regional titles, three District championships, and two Big 9 titles along with a dozen runnerup placings with Stan at the helm. He was named Washington State Wrestling Coach of the Year in 1999.

Although he retired as head wrestling coach after 21 years, Stan continued as golf coach to complete 21 years with that program as well.

He was named North Central Washington Coach of the Decade of the 1990s.
