After posting outstanding times in the pool for Wenatchee High School, Kathy Thompson became the cornerstone of Pacific Lutheran teams from 1986-90 that never finished worse than fifth at the NAIA national meet, won four consecutive conference championships and didn't lose a dual meet to any Northwest Conference opponent. She won 25 conference championships including four straight titles in both the 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley. At nationals, Kathy was a 22-time, four-year NAIA All-American. She finished as high as second in the 200 IM and twice placed third in the 400 IM. Kathy also was a member of two second place 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams. She set PLU records in both the 200 IM (2:11.58) and 400 IM as well as contributing to a record-setting 400 freestyle relay team.
