Will Derting
Football & Baseball
Will starred as a football and baseball player at Okanogan High School and earned berths on the 1A all-state football team at running back and defensive back as a senior. He went on to start as a linebacker for the Washington State University Cougars. Considered to be among the hardest hitting defenders in WSU grid history, Derting was an honorable mention NCAA all-American and all-Pac 10 linebacker in 2003 as a sophomore and second team all-Pac 10 his junior year. Slowed by injuries as a senior, he still earned honorable mention all-Pac 10 accolades. Will ranked fifth on the all-time WSU list in tackles for loss (32), and 13th in total tackles (260) and also set a school record with a 98-yard interception return. Never a Sports Awards finalist as a high school athlete, Derting was named NCW College Male Athlete of the Year three times among his four collegiate category finalist berths.
