Katie was a shining star among Washington state's small school athletes for Manson High School. She dominated on the basketball court while being named State of Washington B Player of the Year in 1998 along with North Central Washington Female Basketball Player of the Year for all classifications, all-state B, and league Player of the Year. Katie set the state B tournament scoring record with 50 points while leading the Trojans to a fourth place finish. Her season average of 16.1 points per game was somewhat deceptive because previous years with averages of 24.5, 22.2 and 17.1 prompted opponents to focus primarily on her. Katie unselfishly adapted to become a team leader in assists. She was also named to the all-state B team and to the all-North Central Washington squad as a junior and was a four year member of the all-league team. In volleyball, she had an overpowering kill while gaining four berths on all-league squads. Katie was also all-league in softball. She was a three time NCW Sports Awards Prep Athlete finalist and was selected as the North Central Washington High School Female Athlete of the Year in 1998.
Katie went on to an outstanding basketball career at Saint Mary's in California where she was a three year starter and team leader for the Gaels. She was honored as a NCW Sports Awards College Female Athlete finalist three times.
